The Value of Children's Art

Blog Article

Give toddlers some crayons, and they start scribbling randomly. The more they scribble, the more they are able to control the crayon and its movements across the paper. As they learn to control their scribbling, they start creating shapes, which eventually become the shapes necessary to write the letters of the alphabet.

Art projects can be as easy as giving kids some supplies and letting them create freely. Parents and teachers should briefly model how to use the tools, but then allow the child to create however they would like using the materials provided.

Materials that can be used to stimulate creativity in preschoolers are watercolors, clay, beads, finger paints, crayons, pencils, markers, yarn and playdough.

Here is an easy homemade playdough recipe that takes just a few minutes and provides hours of fun:

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a saucepan. Mix together 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cut of salt, 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar, and 1 cup of water. Add to oil in saucepan and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Let cool and knead until smooth. Add food coloring.
