Manners Matter

Blog Article

Teaching kids good manners is an important part of parenting, but it can be challenging to help your child master proper etiquette. By being consistent, using clear explanations and reminders, and praising often, you will be proud of your child's mastery of manners. Being respectful will help your child's self-confidence and independence.

Children should learn at a young age to look people in the eye and give them their full attention when they are talked to. As they get older, introducing themselves and having good phone etiquette are appropriate.

As a parent, you set the example for polite behavior simply by the way you act. When your child sees you speaking politely, being considerate, following rules, and using good manners, they will follow your lead.

Praise your child when you catch them doing the behaviors you want. However, there are bound to be occasional slip-ups, so consistency and consequences as needed remind your child that you're serious. It may take some practice for good manners to become natural.
