Back to School

If you're trying to prepare your child for going back to school, there are several things you can do to make this transition easier.

A visit to the school before the first day is helpful to ease your child's concerns with a rehearsal of what to expect on the first day. Try to find another child in the neighborhood to accompany your child on the bus. If they are walking or riding a bike to school, going with them on the first day would be helpful.

Start your child's sleeping and waking routine a week or so ahead of time to make the first day of school easier.

Have your child prepare his backpack early so he feels confident about his school supplies.

Make sure your child has a nutritious breakfast at home, or find out if the school provides breakfast. Decide if your child wants to pack a lunch or eat the lunch prepared by the cafeteria. Ask if your child qualifies for free or reduced price food at school. Practice having "school lunch" with your child, and explain that they will have a limited time for eating.

Talk to your child about bullying and how to respond if he is bullied. Encourage your child to make new friends at school and participate in outside activities.

Make arrangements for child care before and after school. Endless Discoveries Child Development Center offers child care for school-age children with transportation to school in the morning, either in our buses or in school district buses where available, and after school pickup.

The welfare of all children is our primary concern at Endless Discoveries - Glen Rose and Endless Discoveries - Saginaw. Talk to our staff about any concerns you have about your child going back to school.
